THE PLEASURE OF READING
THE
PLEASURE OF READING
We
get pleasure in various ways. Some find pleasure in eating delicious thing, in
hearing sweet music, in seeing beautiful sights and inhaling the sweet smell of
flowers. Reading an interesting account of anything is an intellectual
pleasure, so also is the pleasure of learning the truth of science or
witnessing a fine drama.
In
reading, we can get pleasure in many ways. We may appreciate the language in
which the ideas are expressed, the beauty of expression, or may be carried away
by arrangement of the ideas; the logical sequence of though his themselves.
Some books have all these combinations.
However,
reading may be a mere indulgence if it is pursued to the detriment of our
proper work. Then it is bad as any sensual pleasure. For instance, many waste
their money and time in reading comics and thrillers. They are the penny
dreadful. Hence even in the matter of reading, our tastes are essential.
