FARMING IN CAMBODIA
FARMING IN CAMBODIA
Most
of Cambodian people are farmers. They plant all kind of crops: corn, bean,
tobacco, and especially rice. Most of them produce rice. This work makes them
very busy. Every day they must work in their fields from sunrise until sunset.
Before they plant or transplant their seed, they must prepare the soil. First
they have to take out the small plants. Then they must plough and rake the soil
until it become muddy. They throw the seeds on the wet, muddy soil but sometimes
on the dry soil when there is no rain. So the people must make enough ponds and
wells. When the crops are growing, the crops also need a lot of water. When the
rice is ripe, the farmers are busy again. They make some scarecrows and put
them in their fields. They harvest their rice in bags; so it’s easy to carry.
