WHO INFLUENCES ADOLESCENTS

Many groups and individuals are important contributions to the development of adolescents. It may be useful to think of them in circles, where each circle makes contact and has influence over the young person.

The adolescent is in the middle circle. The first circle around the adolescent contains parents, siblings and other family members who are in direct contact with the adolescent. They have the most impact and influence on the adolescent.

The second circle contains groups or individuals who still have contact with the adolescent, but not as frequently or not as close. Friends, non-direct family members, teachers and health staff are in his circle.

The third circle contains people that less contact but still have a great influence from afar. This could include singers, sport player (such as famous footballers), and other famous people like comedians. This circle can also contain influence from the government, policy maker’s media.

Adolescents in Cambodia are a diverse group. Young people live in different places and are from different settings or backgrounds. They may live in rural, semi-rural or urban environments. They have different experiences and living conditions, so they have different needs.
